Minimum Clearance Requirements

WARNING: You are responsible for meeting mandated clearance requirements for all chimney installations. There are additional clearance requirments for chased chimneys. Please check your local codes.
Vertical chimneys for three typical installations (flat roof and pitched roof with chimney within 10' of peak and 10' or greater from peak) are shown. Please contact your local retailer for other types of installations, or email us at adobelite@adobelite.com if you have an installation that is not covered by these examples.

Flat roof

All chimney terminations must extend a minimum of 3 ft. above the roof line. If the chimney will be within a horizontal distance of 10 ft. of the parapet wall, the chimney must extend at least 2 ft. above the wall. This same rule must be followed if the chimney will be within 10 ft. of an air conditioning unit or another chimney.

If you have a chimney chase, a 2 in. minimum horizontal distance from the chimney must be maintained on all sides. Also, the chimney must extend a minimum of 1 ft. above the chase.
